Bernadine L. Hoey

Salineville - Bernadine L. Hoey, 88, of Jefferson Street died early Sunday morning at Salem Community Hospital.

She was born February 15, 1923 in Salineville, a daughter of the late Harry and Lyda McGillvery Brown.

Bernadine lived all her life in this area. She was a high school graduate and owned and operated Hoey’s Confectionary in Salineville until 1973 and then started working at Summitville Tile at the age of 51. She was a member of the Calvary United Presbyterian Church where she was a session member. She was also a member of International Order of the Rebekah Lodge. She loved to travel and for many years wintered in Florida.

She will be sadly missed by her three daughters, Uneta (Oscar) Gartrell of Salineville, Diane (John Naylor) Moore of Salineville, and Joyce Guess of Mechanicstown; six grandchildren, Beth Gartrell, Debbie Guess Moore, Norman Guess, Richard Moore, Melissa Moore, and Todd Guess; three step grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dean Hoey, and three sisters, Ona Hart, Nellie Lang and Velma Hart.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at 11:00 AM at the Kerr-Pastore Funeral Home in Salineville with the Pastor Tom Allmon of Bethesda Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
